Substrate
VJ panels, weatherboard, render, and modern plasterboard each need a different primer and prep sequence. Bare timber gets an oil-based spot primer. Green plasterboard gets moisture-tested before a roller goes near it. Getting this wrong is why paint fails in under two years.
Colour change
Keeping the same colour on a surface in good condition can be a single coat. A dark-to-light colour change, or a colour change over a stained surface, needs a full two-coat system. This is usually the difference a homeowner notices most between two quotes.
