Nudgee (4014) is a low-density northside suburb bordered by Nudgee Beach Road and the Kedron Brook wetlands: the combination of creek corridors, wetland edges, and low-lying land makes this one of the more moisture-affected residential environments on the northside. Homes here are a mix of post-war timber and brick, with a significant number of the older timber homes sitting on low stumps that keep subfloor ventilation marginal in wet seasons. High moisture exposure means exterior timber in Nudgee weathers faster than in higher, drier suburbs: checking for rot in weatherboards, window frames, and fascia timber before any repaint is essential. Applying a topcoat over timber with active moisture ingress causes peeling within a single wet season. The brick homes in the newer subdivisions are less affected by moisture but still require an alkalinity check on previously unpainted masonry.
