The older weatherboard and fibro homes require careful coating compatibility testing. Many have been painted with oil-based systems repeatedly over decades, and applying a water-based acrylic topcoat over incompatible existing layers without proper priming causes rapid adhesion failure. Nambour's hinterland elevation and inland position remove it from coastal salt-air concerns, but intense summer UV and the significant proportion of older substrate types make it one of the more technically demanding suburbs in the region for a thorough exterior repaint.
